How Does An Impeller Work

An impeller or impellor is a rotor used to increase the pressure and flow of a fluid. It is the opposite of a turbine, which extracts energy from, and reduces the pressure of, a flowing fluid.
An impeller is a rotating component of a centrifugal pump which transfers energy from the motor that drives the pump to the fluid being pumped by accelerating the fluid outwards from the center of rotation. The velocity achieved by the impeller transfers into pressure when the outward movement of the fluid is confined by the pump casing.
The impeller is the piece that rotates inside the casing to effect pumping . The input of the pump is at the eye and the liquid enters perpendicular to the plane of the impeller in the volute or spiral design. As the impeller is never in contact with the case, the input and output are connected hydraulically.
